For animal and action lovers, visit the Cortalim jetty, hire a boat, and go to Cumbharjua canals for crocodile watching. Unlike a zoo, you get to see the crocodiles in their natural habitat. As this is one of the biggest wetlands in Goa, you can actually spot a lot of birds. A glimpse of the mangroves, the idea of the crocodiles lurking in the mushy wetland and the silence contributes to the mystery and adventure.

You have heard about beach shacks and home stays. To take the adventure a notch higher, rent a floating tent. You have to go to Mayem Lake in Bicholim, where you have these tents ready. If you have already quenched your thirst for adventure, it is time to treat your taste buds with authentic Goan cuisine. The gastronomic journey begins in a typical beach shack where you get to enjoy the sun set and wash down fish fingers with chilled lager. Trendy shacks like Curlie’s, Britto, La Plage, Souza Lobo also offer a delightful variety of fusion food. If you are picky about what you want to eat, check the day’s catch and order the dish you want.

·        Go Dolphin spotting

Head to Palolem Beach and if you are lucky enough you will catch the graceful Dolphins diving in and out of the water. If you miss this extraordinary sight, then hire a fisherman’s boat and head out into the sea. You can also find professional boat trips that are organised near Palolem Beach. This is also the place where you can spot Olive Ridley Turtles, the only place except Orissa’s Gahirmatha beach.

 

·        Explore shipwrecks

A lot of tour operators might have told you about shipwrecks around the coastal line of Goa. Why not see it see them for yourself? A lot of wrecks have happened long ago, and you may be surprised to find that they date back to the Portuguese era. Some of the popular zones to explore are Bat Island and Grande Island near Mormugao harbour where you can book a diving experience under the sea among the wrecks and corals. It will be a memorable experience and the experience will be worth a thousand seas!

 

·        Visit a Spice plantation

Away from the beaches of Goa are the spice plantations spread around the town of Ponda. You can find every variety of spice that is usually used in the kitchen as well fresh fruits. You can book a tour to walk leisurely through the plantation, buy spices, and enjoy a wholesome Saraswat buffet lunch at the plantation itself.

 

·        Saturday’s best flea market

If you are in Goa on Saturday and anywhere near the Arpora and Baga beaches, you shouldn’t miss the Ingo’s night market and Mackey’s market. Find everything from handmade crafts by foreigners living in Goa, beautiful punk jewellery, imported T-shirts, leatherware, merchandise for hippies, and lots of lots of delicious food. If this wasn’t distraction enough, there are brilliant performances by musicians and dancers going on till late into the night. And then there is the food extravaganza that is bound to spoil you with choices.

·        Goa Shopping

For shopping visit the Arjuna Wednesdayflea market in north and the sprawling Saturday night market in Arpora. Concerts, live music, art and music tours, flea and street market having stalls selling everything, from apples and spices to carpets and international designer labels. And the finger licking street food will leave you satiated for days. Specially grab on the rotisserie chicken.

·        Late night party

Goa is a place to get wild and overcome inhibitions and a trip here is incomplete without a late night party with some great food, music, dance and booze. The city has some great night clubs, a number of cruise parties, or beach parties. Even gambling is legal in Goa so you can even try your hands in a casino if feeling lucky!

·        Water Sports

Forget all your fears and gear up for the adventurous water sports like parasailing, wind sailing, skiing, wind surfing, dinghy sailing etc. you get it on most of the beaches, but most commercial is the Calangute.

·        Do nothing  just Relax

A complete day or at least half a day should be dedicated to just doing nothing and relaxing in a  beach shack, sipping wine, strolling on beach, witnessing sunset and eating fresh lip smacking food.

 

Lastly, there should be day where you do nothing but bask in the sun in true laid-back Goa style or hire a scooter and just roam around. Make your own itinerary, and include some well-known and not-so-well-known places. It is your experience that ultimately matters since it’s not what you did in Goa that’s important but what Goa has done to you!
