Avoid These 7Bad Habits That Will Affect Your Eyes
Some of our daily habits impact our vision and we often
neglect them either knowingly or unknowingly. Moreover, those who are
wearing premium spectacles need to be more careful about their eyes since they are
already having a vision problem. To make you understand, we have listed seven
common unhealthy habits that can harm your eyes.
Staringat digital screens
Our usual day begins by checking smartphone and while
working at the office we continuously stare at the laptop. The digital screens
emit harmful blue light that can cause strain and dryness of the eyes. Keep
control of the viewing time and avoid continued exposure to blue light. Wear blue light blocking spectacles while
using digital screens.
Rubbing itchy eyes
If you
frequently rub itchy eyes it might look aged and even develop dark circles. Involuntary
rubbing over a longer duration can cause an eye illness called keratoconus
where cornea losses its natural circular shape. This also disrupts the blood
flow and results in the weakening of the cornea. In severe cases, keratoconus
cannot be completely rectified with premium
eyeglasses or contact lenses.
Not taking away eye makeup
Rarely
people forget to remove eye makeup after a hectic schedule which is quite
common. But this habit can cause eye irritation, inflammation, and redness. So
never forget to remove your eye makeup before you sleep.
Not getting sufficient sleep
Binge-watching of favorite web
series till midnight or working till late night leads to instinctive eye spasms called myokymia. Ensure
that you get an appropriate sleep of at least 8 hours at night. Recent studies
have shown that sleeplessness will hasten the aging process which is first
noticed near the eyes. Deprivation of sleep also causes severe mood swings,
dark circles, puffy eyes, and dryness.
Not Wearing Sunspecs
Our eyes are photosensitive and extended
exposure to sunlight can cause problems with your vision like pinguecula,
photokeratitis and pterygium. Make sure that you wear premium
sunglasses that can filter 100% of sun’s harmful UVA, UVB and HEV
rays.
Handling contact lenses poorly
Contact
lenses are very delicate and they must be managed with proper care. Clean it
regularly and never wear it beyond its expiry date. Avoid wearing them while
sleeping and swimming.
Smoking
Recent
studies have proven that smoking exacerbates eye diseases such as glaucoma,
cataracts, and uveitis. Also, an avid smoker has a higher risk of getting
age-related macular degeneration (AMD). If you are already having a vision
problem, chances are high that smoking will further deteriorate the condition
after 50 years of age.
Many vision impairment can be rectified at the initial
phase and some can be monitored with premium eyewear with
appropriate correctors. This is possible only if it is diagnosed at the
earliest stage. Consult an ophthalmologist and undergo regular eye checkups
every six months.
